Investigative-style assignments in
Stage 6 Advanced and Extension

The aims of this professional learning workshop are to provide mathematics teachers with:
  • An understanding of NESA’s requirements for assessing and reporting achievement in the Year 11 and Year 12 Mathematics Advanced and Extension courses
  • Ready-to-use resources
  • An ability to design and write assessment tasks which meet NESA’s requirements.
The workshop will enable participants to:
  • Have a thorough understanding of the new assessment requirements for the Stage 6 Mathematics and Extension courses including the difference between assessment of learning, assessment as learning and assessment for learning
  • Explore the components of Working Mathematically in assessment in line with the mandatory components and weightings
  • Explore the types of authentic investigative-style assessment tasks possible for the Stage 6 calculus-based courses
  • Discover inspirations for creating meaningful mathematical investigations for these assessment tasks
  • Examine and discuss concerns regarding the implementation of projects and investigative-style tasks in Stage 6 assessment
  • Create easy-to-use marking rubrics to ensure the most efficient use of marking time
  • Provide meaningful and constructive feedback to students about their achievement
  • Explore a range of ready-to-use resources to assess student learning
  • Discuss and share assessment resources and strategies
All activities are accompanied by ready-to-use electronic resources, so bring a laptop with a USB port to the face-to-face day.​
