About Gary & Susan

Gary Davies

Susan Turnbull

Picture
Gary Davies has been a Mathematics teacher for over thirty years, including Head of Mathematics for twelve years. His expertise is teaching the calculus-based courses.
His students have achieved excellent results, with many state placings. The most notable occurred in 2017 when two of his students were among the top ten Extension 2 students in NSW. Gary has a real passion for mathematics education. He has attended, and presented at, many conferences over the years.

Gary’s greatest challenge over recent years was the introduction of the International Baccalaureate (IB) into his school, with the compulsory requirement for exploration and investigation within school-based assessment. He attended many training sessions to learn how to develop and mark the investigative-style IB tasks. He fully understands why NSW HSC teachers may be skeptical about the changes to assessment and is well-placed to allay fears and concerns that teachers may have.

Susan Turnbull has been a secondary mathematics teacher for over ten years, including Head of Mathematics for five years. She has facilitated significant changes to the nature of school-based assessment at her current school and has presented on the topic of alternative assessment ideas and enrichment activities at the MANSW Annual Conference. Susan has a comprehensive understanding of the new Stage 6 assessment requirements. NESA contracted
Susan to write support materials, including sample investigative-style tasks, for the new Mathematics Extension 1 and Extension 2 courses.

What our clients are saying

I have never interacted with this amount of teachers in professional dialogue of such a high standard of inspiration, structuring and participation. The format is very flexible (I've almost caught up) and wonderfully varied in perspectives. I am enjoying it. Thank you.
