About the presenter

Positive Classroom Management

Research and experience highlight the fact that most teachers feel unprepared to effectively manage a range of classroom behaviour. This results in high levels of stress and is a major contributor to the high attrition rates of new scheme teachers.

The purpose of this professional learning workshop is to provide classroom teachers, school leaders and counsellors with a range of practical, effective strategies to respond to a range of student behaviour.

The workshop will enable participants to:
  • Implement routines, systems and strategies to reduce problem behaviour
  • Examine and discuss the evidence base that informs well structured classrooms
  • Consider the link between positive classroom behavior and improved academic outcomes
  • Build awareness of the whole-school behavior support model called Positive Behaviour Interventions and Support (PBIS)
  • Categorise and support positive behaviour using a three-tiered model
  • View student behaviour through the lens of self-regulation
  • Discuss and share resources and strategies.
All activities are accompanied by an electronic workbook including research articles, practical strategies and behaviour planning templates.

Testimonial

I am a counsellor working with children and teenagers at a K-12 college. The presentation on Positive Classroom Management was fantastic because it was informative and relevant with practical and proven strategies for staff that work in a school setting. I walked away with new ideas on how to support students and staff on how to respond to challenging behaviours. The presentation was clear, engaging, models the strategies taught and uses various teaching styles to engage different learning styles. The presentation slides and other helpful information is provided. Shelah Magtibay, Toongabbie Christian College, March 2019

Feedback

I have never interacted with this amount of teachers in professional dialogue of such a high standard of inspiration, structuring and participation. The format is very flexible and wonderfully varied in perspectives. I am enjoying it. Thank you.
